I'm one of those fruit loops who generally speaking, doesn't mind or give a second thought to medical procedures. Even those involving needles.
That being said,....when it comes to my spine? Yeah, uhm, no. I'm a chicken-doo-doo, completely!
Let me know how yours go. My neuro suggested it might be an option for what's going on with my neck, and I'm terrified (neck and low back scare me,...and of course, that's where 2/3 of my spinal issues are, go figure).
I have had cortisone injections in both shoulders for years and (yeah, yeah, you're going to have to raise your eyebrows on this one),...but I enjoyed the sensation. True, it isn't quite pain, and it's kind of like pressure as fluid fills the space between the tissues. But again, it wasn't my spine.
My MIL is absolutely terrified of MRI's and always, always has been prescribed a sedative to take beforehand. She's so nervous, though, for her I don't think the dose is sufficient to help her relax in the slightest!
So yes, absolutely, ask your doc about that because I would think that's fine.
Oh, as for my injections, I personally did not experience any systemic side effects (unlike when I took oral prednisone/steroids). I was concerned about the injections contributing to arthritis in the joint (I was getting the shots in my bursa sacs).
Looking forward to your progress.
M.
