So my pdoc just put me on Bupropion along with my prozac. (Anyone tried Wellbutrin?)

At least now I can go back down to 30 mg prozac instead of the 40mg that was giving me nasty side effects. But she also added Bupropion  so that I would have more energy. So we will see. Has anyone taken Bupropion? Generic.

Brupropion is the generic name for Wellbutrin...so I am going to add this to your post's title to try to get more responses.:)

I do hope that this new plan works out for you!! As with any start up or change in dosage...it will need some time (4-6 weeks/ sometimes longer) to notice the beneficial effects.

Wishing you the best with this...and keep us posted as to how it's going, okay?

Wellbutrin was not a good drug for me at all. Apparently the doctor thought it might be, but he was wrong. So we moved on. At least if it does not work for you, there are other alternatives out there! :)
Has your doctor ever tried you on Buspar?

I have heard mixed things about Wellbutrin. My aunt is a psychiatric nurse, so her job is to give people anxiety, depression and psych meds.. she hates Wellbutrin for us anxiety sufferers because believe it or not, but Wellbutrin has caffeine in it! I definitely know that we are all different, but I know for me, caffeine is a NO go because I will get jittery and MORE panicky unfortunately. If you notice any unpleasant side effects, please talk to your doctor right away.. as there are many different meds they could give a whirl. I am currently on Celexa (a sister drug of Zoloft and Lexapro) and I have had no side effects other than less anxiety and panic! :) SSRI's are great because you can take very low doses if need be and they are used to treat BOTH depression and anxiety/panic. Definitely do some research and talk to your doctor. I know it can be stressful trying to find the right drugs for yourself. Hang in there!

Of all the meds I've tried, I have not tried Wellbutrin, so I have nothing to add here in terms of sharing experience.

But definitely, I think S.C. has (as usual) given some good information, and sometimes we all need to be reminded because we can get a tad impatient, but these meds take a while (several weeks) to reach a therapeutic level.

If you can manage any possible s/e's until then, try to hang in there.

Good luck with this, and remember, everyone is indeed different, so this may in fact turn out to be *the* perfect combo for you! :)

I was tried on this med twice and both times it made my anxiety many times worse. I did not want to try it the second time, but my shrink at the time was one of those pompous sorts that thought he knew it all and was the medical director over the clinic where i go, so I didn't fight him over it. But when I took it and my anxiety spiraled through the roof, I didn't care what he thought then b/c at least I had tried it once more! Actually, I haven't seen where Wellbutrin is usually a med of choice for anxiety. Never did get their reasoning on prescribing it, but then again, I didn't go to medical school....
