Zoloft and Buspar major interraction warning!

Hi everyone, I have been on zoloft 100 mg for 17 years and recently taking xanax, but tampering off slowly, down to .12.5 mg a day, and had panic attack happened today. Doctor gave me buspar 5 mg twice a day, come home check it lists on drugs.com has major interaction warning, apparently, doctors gives them together, pharmacist says should be taking with precautions, how? It says can cause coma or fatal. I dont know what should I do, i took one didnt happen anything, but already it will take some time to work, how about if interactions happens days later? Some people says buspar helps, it can, but should it worth to take the chance?

Did you actually put a call into your doctor and pharmacist about this possible interaction?

The sites that check out for these issues with combined meds are no doubt helpful...but they do tend to err on the side of extreme caution...and I have often heard that the warnings are actually okayed by the prescribing doctor/pharmacist.

I think that the concern here is for Sertotonin Syndrome, which is rare, and found in combination of high doses of SSRI's/other similar Rx's.

Again, talking directly with your doctor/pharmacist should clear up any confusion and concern.

Your dose of Buspar is very low. My psychiatrist says it's even used to prevent serotonin syndrome. Buspar is a pretty mild med. I'm on it but frankly feel no better or worse after taking it for 2.5 months. I take 10mg in morning & 10mg @ night. I'm also on Pristiq & Wellbutrin and .25 Xanax twice/day.

I think that like everything else...you can't just look at the big picture...but rather the details that compose it.

Dosage and how long you have been taking each Rx has to be factored in, and that is why we are seeing the contradictions here.

One scenario may be perfectly safe, while another may not.

I thing the bottom line is...if your doctor is knowledgble about meds, and you trust him/her, you are likely safe in taking what is prescribed for you. (consulting your pharmacist, like mentioned above is also a good idea)
