Woke up with one swollen eyelid, why does it always have to be something?

I look like I was punched, my eyelid is swollen and it was kinda itchy when I went to bed last night. What happens during the night where we wake up with something we didn't go to bed with, ugh. shakehead

Keep an eye (no pun intended) on that and if it gets worse, I would have it checked by a professional. Please don't panic as this is something that's not life threatening but may need medication for the itchiness and swelling (depending on the severity).

Have you ever had pink eye? It usually starts like this.

Are you allergic to anything? I am allergic to cats and when there is a cat in the room one of my eyes get really irritated. It itches really bad and also swells up a little.

I am definitely not trying to diagnose you, just giving you my experiences with itchy eyes. Don't let this ruin your day... Keep us posted on how everything goes.

I don't think it's pink eye cause my eyeball is not red. I think it's my allergies.

Allergies..... There ya go! Luckily I never experienced severe allergies other than the common runny nose.

But I have gone to bed feeling great and woke up with a sore throat.... No fun at all.

I was asking myself this the other day too deb. If it's not the usual symptoms, some crazy wacky new symptom shows up. Bet you're ready for a break from all the continuing stresses. Hope you get one soon too! Just remember to rejoice in those days that are relatively stress free!

I have had this happen from both allergies and from a stye forming.

I do hope that it went away quickly...do you have a cooling eye mask? They are filled with gel, and you keep them in the frige...they work great for reducing puffiness.

Well I'm convinced "it's always something" because we're such a special group of people.

You could check with your eye doctor for some reassurance, just to make super sure that everything's okay.

Compresses can help.

I don't know if even saline eyedrops are okay (again not a doc here) but maybe just to keep the eye clean?

I hope it goes away soon, I agree with Merrida- Compresses should help- this happened once to my son and that was what the doctor recommended and also avoid touching the area without washing your hands and do not touch your other eye!
