Is anyone here on mood stabilizers? My doc told me today that he thinks my brain chemistry is sensitive to antidepressants since I didn't react that well to zoloft. He said for now while I recover from the emotions from ending the pregnancy, he wants to keep me in regular Xanax while I see my new therapist, but then in December we would talk about mood stabilizers. I know nothing about them, so I was curious.

I take Lamictal (generic Lamotrigine). I think it's mild and helpful. I didn't have any bad side effects. Some dizziness at first but it didn't interfere with the days & it went away.

I think a lot of us w/depression & anxiety who take meds, also take an addon like a mood stabilizer or anti psychotic (what a terribke name lol but it's not scary).

I also use Lamictal with very good results. Mood stabilizers work wonders for me. I have mild anxiety at times but actually use it to control my mood swings. I have bipolar 1.

Hi

I used to take a Mood Stabiliser called Pregabalin which was an anticonvulsant and had good results with it but it stopped working over time and I now take an antipsychotic instead.

Thanks everyone. I'll have to look into this. I guess I'm a little confused as to why he's suggesting them for panic disorder? I don't have mood swings or anything like that. Just full blown panic attacks and more generalized anxiety. I know he's the doctor though, but I get really freaked out about new meds.

Mood Stabilzers are now used for anxiety & depression as they've shown to help that too. You don't have to have Bipolar for it to help. I don't have bipolar and I think the Lamotrigene helps. My anxiety is way down since starting it. It also obviously works wonders for Bipolar too, & many other mental disorders.

Maybe with therapy and your benzo, you will be so much better by December that you won't need anything. That is absolutely possible too! ☺️

Interesting! I'm so bad. I always question my doctor when it comes to new meds. I'm basically terrified of weird side effects! I have appointment number 2 with the new therapist today, so I'm excited to see what she says!!

Yes, run this by your therapist, so you can be as informed as possible.

Is this your GP prescribing this Rx? If so...you may want to ask your therapist if she works with a psychiatrist who can provide more information for you...just a thought. A P-doc would be a great source for the most insight as to indications for a new Rx for mental health.:)

It's my neurologist who prescribed for me. He said we will put it off for another few months because he doesn't want to make anymore sudden changes that might make me take steps backwards. He says that since he saw me before the pregnancy situation, I seem to be about 70% myself and that before we start messing around, he'd like to allow me to grieve and feel bad for awhile. Sounds a little weird but I get what he's saying. I need to feel these feelings right now. I am going to ask a lot more questions when I see him though.
