Hi everyone! Here's a new one..I can't smell. At all. My husband asked if I smelled something and I didn't. Then I started freaking out. I sprayed some perfume on my wrist and couldn't smell it at all. I opened my shampoo, same thing. Has anyone ever had this happen??

I'm hoping it is from the sinus congestion I have from the walking pneumonia. Hopefully it will go back to normal soon. Ugh, I just hate when things are off. It always makes me feel so horrible. Battling this pneumonia has been a struggle for me. I know it will get better, but I get so anxious with the tiredness and not feeling like myself.

I know how you feel. When things are off with my body, I'm always extra anxious! I'm sure the reason you can't smell is sinus congestion. I wouldn't worry.

My son had beanie weanies for lunch, I'm sure if you went in his room you would see you could smell just fine wink

I've heard my dad complaining that he can't taste at times when his sinuses are bad, maybe he can't smell and just doesn't realize it at the time, doesn't taste and smell go hand in hand? Or should I say nose in mouth?

But, really. I can't smell. Like I put a bottle of open nail polish under my nose and I can't smell it. It's really scaring me. I hope this is only temporary. :(

That is weird gigi, but you can taste? Sinuses can really mess up things, but I like to blame most things on sinuses, If I'm dizzy heady...must be my sinuses, if my throat hurts...must be my sinuses, if my leg hurts, must be my sinuses.(just kidding about the leg, but I probably would blame it on that if my nose was anywhere near my leg)

No, my taste is way off too. I'm reading all these stories about people that had a virus and lost their sense of smell. I'm really scared. I hope it comes back. I'm trying not to to freak out about it, but it's really scary. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but imagine not being able to smell fresh cut grass, a fire, whether or not milk is spoiled. Or worse, it is caused by a tumor.

Lol, that is a new one. Just wanted to share, Miss Gigi, that my husband had this same dilemma the other day. I had made an awesome beef stew. The aroma was all through the house. I was so excited when he came home because that's one of his favorite meals. Well, when he got here, he asked, "So, what's for dinner??" I said, "Can't you smell it?" To which he responded... "Nope."

I was so confused, because he always knows what I'm baking right when he walks through the door! But apparently he couldn't smell a thing!

I hope you get better soon! I bet this is only a short-lived event!

Did his sense of smell return? Was he sick or anything when this happened?

He had/has a respiratory infection/virus. We're not 100 percent sure what it is. This virus went from my youngest, to my 4 year old, to me, to him and he is doing a LOT better now. The really unfriendly virus did last around 2 weeks though. No fun at all! But yes, he can smell again. :)

Ok, good to hear!! I've had this respiratory thing for about 3 weeks now and just in the last few days I realized I cannot smell at all! Then, of course, I'm reading all these horror stories on line about people never getting their sense of smell back. It's good to know that your husband did! Makes me feel a little better. Thanks!

Yes, this virus was no fun at all! My husband never gets sick this long, and so we were starting to wonder if something was wrong with the air purity inside our house! But we are all doing a lot better, not fully, but we are on the mend. :) Get well soon!!

Glad you are all feeling better! Yes, this one was a doozy!! My son still has a cough too. I think he brought it from daycare. Somehow my husband has avoided this one. Lucky though, he has asthma and it probably would have been horrible for him.

Hey TMA....did you guys experience weakness with your sickness? I just chased my son up the stairs and I am so out of breath and my arms and legs are weak. I feel like I'm going to pass out. Now I'm afraid something is wrong with my heart. Ugh...just want this to end. I have enough anxiety without adding more symptoms from being sick.

Hey Miss Gigi,

So sorry it took me so long to log back in. I've had a busy few days. Strange thing is, I think we may have had the same exact virus, to a T. So strange...! :) We were very weak, and very tired. My husband, who never sleeps during the week day-- actually stayed home from work for a half day just to sleep. The next day he worked from home and could barely do a thing. I had major weakness as well, and was totally winded going up the stairs. This was why I went on another uneventful cardiologist visit. I am fully recovered now though. All in all it took around a month or so before I am finally feeling well.

I bet this is the same silly virus...! :/ Hopefully you will start to feel better soon!!

Thanks for that TMA! That makes me feel so much better! It does sound like the same thing. I'm glad you are all feeling better. I've been napping a lot too, and I never nap! Hopefully this thing will run its course and I'll be back to just feeling my anxiety stuff instead of all this too. :)
