advice on how to change jobs

#1 - pay a pro a $100 bucks to do your resume. Things have changed a lot in that area....

#2 - Interviewing is a two way street. You need to know as much about the position as they need to know if you can do it... Asking great questions makes you look good while being modest. One of favorite to ask when possible: "Tell me about opportunities for advancement. Are they based on seniority or ability?"

There are tons of stuff on line that you can also read on the subject. Monster.com is a great place to read and place your resume.

Networking... LinkedIn is one of many.. Sending your resume to everyone you know is something you should do... You can't beat word of mouth.

Times haven't changed that much regarding salaries.. It just depends on what you do and how people that are out there that can do the job.

Hey Weary! I can't tell you what an expert would say in this, but I can share my personal "method." Anytime I was considering a job change, the first thing I would do is pray. I would pray that God would open a door for me to be in a new position.

I never knew what job I was going to be looking for, so I also asked for His guidance in finding the right place. I had to use a lot of patience as well. God's not like an instant winning scratchers ticket. ;D So with prayer, patience and persistence.... the right door always opened! I had the BEST jobs and I loved them SOOOOO much.

What field is your interest in? I was in hospitality, so it's less about your resume and more about your personality. Every field is different though!

TMA-Long ago when I needed to part ways from working from home with my husband (I still work for our business but on a part time basis and have relinquished decision making to him) I prayed on it for months. Not only did I pray for a job but also for a friend. It didn't happen immediately and I took little baby steps. First I bought a suit in case I needed to go on an interview. Then I wrote my resume- yes out of sync but did what I could when I felt I could. Prayed prayed prayed. We can't have all our eggs in the same basket Lord. Then our business was awarded to do business with the company I work for who was just starting out. They needed an administrative co-coordinator to assist with the start up...I interviewed and got the job but said- I need to think it over...I was scared scared scared. As much as the boss told me he thought I was perfect for the job for this that and the other reason I was still thinking I don't know if I can handle this! But the money was good, good, good and I would have a 401K plan which I didn't have. So I took a leap of faith. A couple of months after I started we hired a woman who turned out to be such a good friend to me. She was about 10 years older and really encouraged me to assert myself and taught me the ropes of the corporate world. She was let go unfairly and we lost touch and I miss her to this day....

But the moral of this story is- I have given this over to God again. I know He has a plan for me and I will bide my time and pray again and take my baby steps again (God helps those who help themselves) and I am going to be OK again.
