I often just wish I could turn off my hypervigilance. It is super frustrating to get caught in that cycle. Here is an interesting article on

I have found that a lot of the relaxation techniques, particularly the mindfulness meditation, helps "break the cycle". It does take practice and time, but it made a huge difference in my life. I can't recommend it enough. I have even bought some books, like Calming Your Anxious Mind bu Jeffrey Brantley. Here is the
Mindfulness Resource from HealingWell. I think they also have some great guided recordings in their resources, particularly breathing exercises. Again, these work best with practice.
