I was wondering if anyone knew. I suffer from horrendous sleep clenching, which has resulted in two different volumes of tinnitus in both ears, tooth pain, joint pain, and facial pain. I feel like I'm dying here.
I don't have money to see a specialist any time soon. I fear by the time I do, it will be too late.

Can you see a dentist? He can make a mouthguard for you. It will alleviate the pain you have.
If you can't see a dentist right now, you can buy a mouthguard online or in stores.
One example would be this one.

Check out other products. It may not fit perfectly compared to the one that can be made by dentists but it's better than using nothing.

I saw my dentist, all he did was verify I have TMJ disorder, and referred me to a specialist.
The thing about
the over counter guards is there bulky, and I have a exceptionally tiny mouth.
I'm scared my pain will become chronic, and my TMJ's will be unrepairable.

SK,
You can get a child's size mouth guard...the kind you boil to soften and bite to size on your own, at a sporting goods store.
As far as the hypnosis...have you looked up any on youtube? Would you like me to and post links?
Also, how about
Binaural Beats? This is sound wave therapy that induces deep relaxation, you could try that perhaps.
Let me know if you would like me to post any of the above for you.:)

Alright, thanks. I'll see what I can find. Ultimately I aim to break the habit of clenching all together, the long term effects are not pretty. So many people say it's impossible, but my step grandmother broke the habit by visiting a hypnotist a couple times, and my uncle broke the habit with the aid of magnesium, and relaxation techniques. Of course his bruxism was still in the early stages. I thought I had it for about
a year, but now I'm suspecting three. Within a 18 month period I remember having 3 cheek swelling episodes, and mysterious tooth pain that turned out to be nothing. >_>
Luckily my clenching habit became coordinated, or I would really be screwed. Most of my relatives nonchalant attitude towards the disorder really bugs me.
Mother- It can't be that bad.
Father- Oh poo.
Brother- That's nothing.
Grandfather- Just take aspirin, you'll be fine.
------
One of the things I do fear is not being able to break habit of clenching. I just want my life back, I feel like I'm stuck in a nightmare :(

Funnily enough I can relax every muscle group except shoulders, neck, and face. I wonder if I have a chi blockage, or something...

Tried this one? If not, might be worth adding to your 'toolbox' :)

I found out, just for a evaluation it's 300. I don't know what I'm going to do. The long term consequences, are terrible, and no one seems to care. :(

SK,
Are you referring to a mouth guard fitting?
How about
looking for the less expensive store bought type? Any luck with finding the children's size at the sporting good store? It's got to be better than none, right?

My two cents: I saw my dentist for this (clenching/grinding) and a cleaning last week. She said the the store bought mouth guards aren't good for dealing with clenching/grinding. She really encouraged me to get a properly fitted professional one. I've seen her for years and consider her a friend, so I don't think she's just trying to sell me an expensive one. She did give me a referral to a TMJ specialist (I have an appt next week) and said that if they "prescribe" the splint there it will probably cost me less because it will be covered by my health insurance and instead of my dental insurance. That said, I have been wearing one from Target in the meantime until I can get the more expensive one. It's helped a bit.

Unfortunately I couldn't find a generic bite guard, that's suitable for me. Maybe I need to travel to a near by city, my towns kind of rural.
I have a appointment with a oral surgeon on the 10th February. He charges 130 for examination, and accepts payment plans. :D
I can't wait for my jaw to be on the road to recovery. My health means everything to me.

Update- Finally got a sports guard. I wonder if it will fit right? My teeth are oddly positioned... ^^;
I had to reschedule the appointment with the specialist. My financial situation went from bad, to worse.

SK.,
I think for now, this is better than not using anything, right?
It may not be custom fit or ideal...but I think it will at least keep the clenching at night down.
Hopefully you will be able to keep it in, without spitting it out.
I think that's the benefit of a custom fit really.
When you can save up or get financial help, then you can look into going to your dentist for the permanent guard.:)
Hoping this helps!

Possibly. It does calm my weary jaw down.
The only problem is, I followed the molding directions perfectly, and it still seems loose. I worry about
possibly choking on it. :(
