accidentally double dosed on my benzo :(

So yeah, been taking Clonazapam twice daily for 4 months and for the first time ever I forgot that I had taken it and accidentally took another one a couple hours later.

I know it's not a huge deal. I'm only on a tiny dose anyway. I'm just upset because I've never done it before, and also because I'm in the middle of tapering and was just about to go down in dose again in a day or two. Now I'm afraid I've screwed myself up. By taking double I took the highest dose I've ever taken while on this med.

Anyone think it will mess up my taper? I'm kinda nervous about continuing on as planned now. Going down in dose always sucks anyway and I'm afraid this will just make it worse. I feel like such a dummy. I've never done that before! I even tried to throw up when I realized but I apparently lost my gag reflex at some point.

I'm tapering 2 and it is terrible. I am down to a half a day and just had a monster panic attack and took a full 1mg in blind panic.

Anyways, I don't think it should mess u up 2 much unless u psych yourself out. So maybe holding off a couple days before tapering would give u peace of mind.

No you haven't messed up anything. Yes, it's not a huge deal at all.
It's only once. Not a week or a month. Even when tapering off meds, there will be times when you may have to take more than planned...and then go back to your original dose. So no worries. You will be fine. Also, take notes and write down what time you took your med. I always write it down. Then you will be sure you took it and won't double dose again.

Try not to be to hard on yourself these things happen I don't think it will inter fear with your tapering but as Jennings mentioned it may be worth holding off for a couple of days.

I would like to hear from people tapering klonopin as it has been a horrendous experience for me. I was on .5 bid for a few months for panic but found that regular dosing made me depressed. So far I have been tapering .125 daily q 2 weeks and the withdrawal has been awful. It still hasn't slowed me down but I'd like to hear how others are doing. I am not on an antidepressant as I can't tolerate them either. Currently starting cbt therapy. As for forgetting if I took my med, I pre pour my meds weekly in a pill planner to prevent this. I have forgotten also so don't worry.

Tapering has been mostly painless for me actually. After discussing it with my doctor we decided to do a very slow taper. I reduce my dose by 10% every two weeks. I'm currently down 30% and was ready to move to 40% when this happened. So far this has been very successful for me. It's definitely a much longer process, but worth it for the lack of intense withdrawal. I use a milligram scale for accurate reductions.

Glad to hear that this wean has been successful for you! I agree with the others that a one time larger dose should not have an effect on your progress.
