First of all I am sorry you experienced this frightening situation, how awful that must have been.
I do the same thing as apparently you are doing, I do not have a panic attack during a panicky situation, I have it afterwards, sometimes days later and they can be very VERY bad, I have what seems to be delayed panic, it hits when everything should be better.
If you saw this person today that could have triggered something in your mind similar to PTSD, just out of curiosity why did you not call the police or tell this person off? I am usually a very non-confrontational person, but you better believe if I saw the person that was trying to break in my home I would immediately call the police, I know telling this person off may not be the wisest choice being this person was bold enough to call your name, and you would have to somehow know him? if you recognized his voice?, or at least be an acquaintance.
Very weird situation, and for me personally knowing this freak is still roaming the streets after trying to break in my home would make me panic 24/7.
