Had a panic attack during therapy? Lately I've been very panicky during my sessions and sometimes start to feel panic but I ignore it and try to think of something else. I'm afraid that one of these days I'll actually panic, and was wondering if anyone has gone through that before.

I'm going through a bit of a "relapse" right now and would appreciate some insight on this particular situation in case it happens, so I would know what to expect.

Yeah...I used to get worked up at any kind of appointment...even taking my daughter to an eye or dental exam!  I never had an attack while with my therapist...but would often feel uncomfortable or on edge.

Simply be honest with your therapist if this happens. It could actually be a really good opportunity for him/her to help walk you through a good coping technique.

If it did happen...don't worry...this very well could turn out to be a great learning experience, and your therapist has seen it many times before, trust me!

I hope that you start to make huge leaps in your recovery efforts very soon. Have faith, stay positive and keep up the good work!

I'm in the process of changing therapists so it's going to be a little strange confiding in someone else. It's a man instead of a woman, which may or may not help matters. And it's further away in an area I'm not familiar with. He's calling me tomorrow to set up a consultation. I'm both anxious and excited to see someone that can actually help with my dp, so we will see! Thanks for the advice.

In all seriousness though...you will do fine...and I hope that this turns out to be a great change for you, and the start of some great recovery!

Manic.

I have had a panic attack at a therapy appointment. Luckily it was towards the end of the appointment, so I didn't have to waste the whole time sitting through an attack. I ended up taking a xanax, so the worst passed before I had to drive home. Like SC said, they see it often, so I didn't feel too uncomfortable (aside from the panic).

I have major anxiety in every therapy session, so its normal. They are trained for that kind of thing, and can help you calm down.
