hey all! So of course I went today and bought an at home blood pressure monitor. The first time I did it I felt a bit anxious (scares of what it was gonna be) and it was like 142/90..sat a minute and took some deep breaths and did it again..went to like 132/85...waited a bit and did it again and was like 127/78. Would that mean that my 'high blood pressure' is anxiety related? If I actually had a high blood pressure issue..would it keep coming down the more I relax?

Yes, likely you were tense and anticipating a high reading the first time you took your BP.

You have to 'make friends' with the cuff...;p

When I go see my Cardio doc the nurse takes my BP.... Doc comes in and has a fit... (it's ten minutes after the nurse was in) He takes my BP and we're both one with the universe cause it's a a low normal looking number.

All anxiety! It would not come down if it were a genuine high blood pressure issue.

I don't now how long you sat down before you took the first reading but I've heard you should be calm for 5 minutes before you check your BP. Mine is higher if I just sit down and take the reading and if I sit quiet for a while it goes down to a decent number.

Mine was high the other day at the Dr's office. The bottom no. was 90 which is a little high. My heart rate was 100 too.


I was in a state of high stress at the time.

Yes, I believe it is anxiety related. Worrying about it causes the high blood pressure.
