Hi Lexahelp. Try not to worry. I have a history of anxiety and panic attacks, which began in 1999. Every once in a while, it comes back--and usually with a new symptom that scares me! I had to go off of my Estrogen replacement in January. I was ready for the hot flashes, but not the anxiety. Once again I turned to this wonderful support group, and I also pulled out my Claire Weekes books and CDs and began to study again. I was experiencing shortness of breath, sleeping problems, those old skipped heart beats, and generalized anxiety. Did I mention I also have some chest pains? I will see my doctor in a few weeks, but I know it is anxiety, because when I take a small dose of Ativan, the symptoms get better. It's also much better than it was a few months ago. You would think by this time, anxiety couldn't fool me, but it does. It's a very sneaky thing!! We do it to ourselves because our nerves are sensitized. As soon as we convince ourselves that it's no big deal and the symptoms don't really matter, it can stop scaring us. If I think back, I can usually pinpoint something that caused the setback. My setbacks usually don't last too long once I begin the cognitive behavioral therapy and begin to relax and let my nerves heal. I also do relaxation cds at night, which really helps. Anything to relax your tense body will help you to heal quicker. I wish you the best, I know it's scary, but hang in there. I wish you the best :)
