Hey everyone! I am starting a kickboxing class tomorrow night. I am excited as I need to lose a few pounds, but I am nervous too. I just turned 40 in January, with my health issues I feel old. I worry that I may get palpitations during the class. I know its silly to be worried about
such thing, but the other women in the class have been doing this for a while, and this is new to me. I am going to force myself to go and try it out, but will be sure to have a Xanax with me incase I freak out. Its a weird situation, as the instructor is my children's Sensai for Karate, so I don't want to embarrass myself. Thanks for reading this. Sometimes just getting your thoughts down can make a difference!

Hello!
For us anxiety sufferers sometimes exercise is a trigger, I myself have it, but my pdoc has always reccomended that I exercise, he says that exercise is better for anxiety than any medication. I think it is great that you are starting this class, and although you might get nervous at first, you will probably love it as soon as you start noticing all the benefits.
Best of luck and keep us posted!

SOBS,
You are going to do great!! Go at your own pace and make any modifications that you need to. If the instuctor does not offer any alternative moves...and you need a modification of a particular movement...ask!!
As a dance teacher, I always give a second options for more challenging steps, extensions, ect...to keep my students comfortable and safe.:)
Make sure and warm up/stretch well (this should be included in the class time!) so that you do not pull a hamstring or the gracilis or adductor longus (groin) muscles...which you will use while kicking up and to the side.
It is a great cardio workout, so know that you will have an increased heart rate...and that this is normal and okay!
Remind yourself that the sensations of exercise and anxiety can be similar...but what you are doing is good for you, and therefore you need not be anxious.
Have a great time, and let us know how it goes okay?
Kick some anxiety booty!! ;p ;p ;p

Thanks everyone! I didn't even think of the elevated heart rate! I normally clip along in the 90's, so I better prepare myself for the heart rate thing. I will definitely try to kick the anxiety to the curb!
