Dizzyness/light headedness scared what is wrong??

I had a Heart Attack 6 years ago at the age of 35. Ever since then I get feelings of dizzyness and it can come at anytime. Dr. says it's not my heart and everything there looks fine. They said it can be from anxiety. I am on a bunch of meds since my heart attack like metropolol and a depression med celexa. Anyone else experience this?? I hate this. Makes me want to just stay home in fear of passing out. I never had this before my heart attack. Could this really be from anxiety??? Oh btw I am new here and hope to get to know you all.

Welcome to Healing Well's Anxiety forum Harley08, I'm happy you found us! This is an awesome community that really cares and understands living with anxiety.

I'm sorry to hear about your heart attack at such a young age, but I think you need to trust your doctors when they say your heart is okay now. Did they tell you that it was probably anxiety?

Yes, dizziness is a main symptom of anxiety, a lot of people complain about the same thing. A lot can be done for anxiety, including medication if you choose that route. Also therapy, we recommend CBT or Mindfulness therapies as both have good results on treating anxiety.

Thank you AngelLisa for responding. Yes my dr. thinks it is anxiety since I had a heart attack. But it's been 6 years now. I think I am going to have to live with this forever it seems. They did put me on Citrolpram to ease it and it did help, but I still have it out of the blue. I am happy I found people with the same issues. It will be nice to receive support and help give support.

Oh I forgot to mention our resources Please take a look at them. There are a lot of helpful self help links, including breathing techniques and Mindfulness videos. There is also a huge list of anxiety symptoms, it is the first link on the page, just so you can see dizziness is a common complaint.

Welcome. AngelLisa has given you some solid advice. I strongly recommend you speak to your doctor about health anxiety and what options you can explore to help limit its impact on your life.

Welcome. I'm sorry you are experiencing these symptoms. I can only imagine how scary they are when you've actually had a heart attack. A lot of us have thought we were having one on many occasions. Ugh!

I'm glad you are getting the help you need, and that your doc has confirmed that your heart is good. Do try the coping skills, and just vent here anytime. We are here for you.

Hi Harley and welcome!

I am sorry to hear of your health struggles and subsequent anxiety. It is completely understandable how having a cardiac event could trigger worries...

However, if you have been given a clean bill of health from your doctor...

...and you are following the recommended steps for staying well post H.A....then you can expect to do very well...as many survivors do! :)

Have you considered looking into therapy for help? There are many people with similar challenges after experiencing a health scare. There are programs specifically that can help. Your doctor can likely make a referral.

Let us know how we can also encourage you...support is key!

Thank you for all the responses and this group seems close and will be a comfort to get some encouragement from one another!! I need this and am glad I found it. I will check out the links on this site.

I keep telling myself that the dr. says it's not my heart, it just hard to get that out of my head so to speak. My heart attack was massive and happened so quick I was unconscious within minutes. Life flighted to a hospital and the dr said that I was very fortunate. Not sure if there are any believers here, but I know God was with me and many people were praying for healing.

When I got a clean bill in regard to my health, it helped me so much. I began to dismiss this or that, and it's been great. I get a bit dizzy and lightheaded when I get up from my seat too fast.

I took metropolol, but can't remember how much it helped. My definition of it was... this is medication that is going to block these adrenaline rushes I feel when I am upset. It began when I thought I got on the wrong train in Connecticut and could not calm down even after I knew I was in the right place. I have taken Celexa as well. Later upgraded that to Lexapro. The Lexapro served me quite well, but there was the sexual side effect I did not want to cope with which is quite common especially in men. We all respond to medications differently. A doctor was talking to me about antidepressants and told me a specific story about Welbutrin. Welbutrin made me mean as a snake. He said he gave it to two relatives and one responded to it well while one did not. You'll be okay.

That is something. I also was put on Welbutrin and I was terrible on. Mean, just ask my wife. Glad I am off of it. I take Metropolol for for my heart and I can't get off that according to my Dr. It does help regulate my blood pressure, but I often wonder if it causes me to feel dizzy at times. Thanks for the response.
