I very well may blow a gasket. As if work did not suck enough already, it got worse. A news outlet released the wages made by individuals that are employees of the city. That is wrong and unethical. Curiously I looked at said news outlet's release. Of the 12 people in my section, I am the 11th lowest-paid, yet I do the most work. ...I, don't know what to do. I make nearly $2300 less than the average salary here and I could spit fire right now.

Oh No, That was so wrong of them to release that information. But what is done is done now. I'm not sure what to say about you being one of the lowest paid, except to bring it to the attention of your boss and ask her why that is when you are doing most the work and they rest of the office just use their time to have a gab fest.

Yes, I think it's time you push this issue. It's eating you alive.

I'd start with a daily journal of how much time each of these people spend chatting with each other. Just make a note, and the date. Do this for a full week, and then ask for a meeting with your supervisor and these people. Put it all out there. It might be difficult, but just ask how can I be paid so much less, and I've accomplished all of this during the week, yet these people have spent X amount of time not earning their higher pay?

Now, if you feel they would just let you go, you might need to have a back up plan. I know you've been so unhappy with your job for a long time. Maybe it's time to look for a change? Is there something else you might enjoy more that provides adequate pay/insurance?

I second what SC said. HR department should be your next stop. Don't be afraid to let them know how angry you are. Just obviously don't blow a gasket in the HR office. Maybe wait till after. But definitely convey how frustrated and disappointed you are.

Lisa, I don't really care that my name was released, but I couldn't help but look to see what my co-workers make. Needless to say, the day was bad. Little man claims he did not know this was going to happen. Instead of coming to us and talking to us about it like a man, he sent an e-mail simply stating he was unaware it would happen.

Stacey, I'm getting there. In one act of rebellion, I have stopped answering the phone, especially if I hear someone on a personal call. Oddly enough, I have kept a log, but it is a bit inconsistent. I'm pretty lost at the moment. Any move I make at this point would probably be a lateral one without more education. Perhaps I could get my Masters Degree in something in two years, but I don't think I can stand two more years at this job. Insurance is kind of the kicker. Perhaps early next year I can check on Obamacare.

Scaredy, I'm unsure whether to ask for a raise first before I go to HR. To be blunt, I am worth a minimum of five more thousand dollars a year and I doubt I get that. That stinking place is a zoo.
