Advice please...really need it

I started seeing a fortune teller(s) after a kind of breakup I had. I have been wasting money on them really. They aren't bad at all. In fact, they have been right about my past and have given me advice about the future which is helpful because it is pretty much the same as paying a councelor to do the same thing. Councelors and Psychiartists have never been helpful though.

Anyway, the problem is, I go to them because it is comforting and therapeutic. Much better for me than spending an hour speaking to my psychiatrist who just listens, takes notes and never gives me advice. However, this fortune telling has become an addiction to me and I am losing control. Never in my life did I think this would happen to me. I know I need someone to listen and give me direction. I have a few friends who have been very supportive...but I still go to these fortune tellers.

Can someone please convince me to stop?

STOP!!!!!!!!!!! We have talked about this before melodee, you really need to stop going to the fortune teller. I won't get into my personal beliefs on them, but you need to stop going and save that money like we talked about before. You need a mini vacation, regardless of what it is, I like the day at the spa idea and think it would help you alot more then going to the FT.

Yes I do need a vacation. Maybe a tropical island? Would love it. Great way to heal.

I agree...

I think the balm like effect that the advice/fortune you receive is temporary...and your hard earned money could be spent better elsewhere.

I would still encourage you to seek therapy as a lasting treatment option...and more specifically CBT or another pro-active program. Talk therapy has its place, but it sounds like you are more geared towards a program where you are active in your recovery...and CBT might be a good fit.:)

...oh yeah...that and a vacation! I always support vacation.:)

SC, thank you for the support. I am not sure about CBT. I think I would do better just talking. I wish this pain would just disappear.

Hi Melodee

I agree with the above you need to stop and you are telling yourself to stop so follow your own advice.

CBT is very effective and has to most evidence that it works well in treating anxiety disorders but there are many other options I am currently doing Schema Therapy which I have found very helpful. I would look into what therapy options are available in your area.
