Sorry to hear this happens to you, but it sounds like something my cousin experiences. I'm not certain on the name of the condition, but basically it's where his esophagus contracts and he has to have it stretched back out, then he feels fine. Might be something similar.

Hello and welcome!
I am sorry to hear of this scary symptom you are experiencing.
Have you had anxiety issues/symptoms previously? How long has this been going on...and is it a new issue for you?
D.S. and Sylk both bring up good points...
Is is possible this is an allergic reaction?
...and the condition of the throat spasms is call Cricopharyngeal Spasm. (you may want to look it up and see if this sounds like what you are experiencing.)
You should be seen by your doctor (or ER if your breathing is restricted) to see what exactly is the cause of your discomfort.
If it turns out to be anxiety related...come on back and we will be here to advise and support.
Best wishes!

Hi
I think you need to go and see a doctor to get checked out as it could be an allergic reaction to something but anxiety could also be the cause but a doctor will be able to best advice you.
Welcome to the forum I hope you start to feel better soon keep us posted.

Hi Madstop,
Okay, it is good that you can rule out allergy...
...how about
my other question? Have you dealt with anxiety and symptoms previously? If so, please let us know in detail a bit more about
your experience and any treatment you have tried...so we can advise you better.
The bottom line however, is that if this is a new issue for you...you need to see your doctor for answers, in order to be properly dx'd, and get the help you need.:)

p.s. I deleted your duplicate post. Please do not double post as it is confusing and takes up needed forum space. Continue responses in the thread only please. TY! :)

Hi Madstop!
Do you experience any other symptoms when this happens?
I recently went to the doctor after having an episode similar to what you describe; my throat closed up and I choked while getting a drink of water. This has happened to me in the past while trying to swallow medication. I also had horrifically painful chest pain; turns out it was heartburn. I am getting a test on Monday to figure out if I have GERD; the doctor has said that due to stress I may have damaged my esophagus, which can cause spasms.
When I get paranoid, I tend to do a lot of research and came across this method that may help the next time you experience this sensation of your throat spasming. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KV2D5w9hVw
Hope you are feeling better soon.

I'd definitely go to the Dr. If you are desperate to try something then try a little mint, it is a natural antispasmodic. Another thing you can try is yawning, that helps me a little when my throat feels tight from acid reflux.
