Often the terms are used interchangeably...there is generalized anxiety (GAD)...which is a pervasive over exaggerated feeling of worry...
...and there are the more acute episodes of anxiety (panic attacks/panic disorder), which are generally short in duration and marked by extreme physical symptoms.
The point in that anxiety/panic/attacks all being within the same spectrum...and therefore treated similarly is true.
...so seeking a combination of therapy, self help, and meds if indicated should be a goal for anyone seeking recovery.
