Dog1216 going to jail

Hey guys,


So today was my court date for disqualified driving aka driving under suspension... They gave me a really harsh penalty. 30 days in jail on weekends. I cannot, repeat cannot go to jail I have the biggest anxiety issues I JUST started to recover. I'm a 22 year old female barely making it on my own I JUST went back to work a month ago because I was finally feeling somewhat ok to do so and now I can't cope anymore. I am SENTENCED TO GO TO JAIL. I have not pleaded guilty I'm trying to find a lawyer. One said 5000$ minimum for him might exceed 15000$ I don't know if I should just accept to go to jail I highly doubt the judge will listen to me. The reason why I drove that day I got a phone call my best friend attempted suicide and was transferred to a hospital I stayed with her until her mom came and got caught on my way back.. I don't know what to do. That lawyer said no guarantees we have to win crown over. I don't know what to do.

I agree with Larry...see about court appointed counsel, or look into a lawyer who offers pro bono work...you could get a break and find someone who can help.

In the worst case scenario...say if you do have to pay a substantial sum to a lawyer...is it possible to get help from your family?

Preparing mentally will be important, so you are okay no matter what the final outcome.

You will get through this. Unpleasant? To be sure, but not impossible.

I'm with Larry - they don't want you in jail.

As you referred to "the crown", I'm assuming you're in a commonwealth country. If you're in Canada, Google your province name and legal aid, eg. "Ontario Legal Aid". That will get you a contact number that you can phone to get hooked up with someone to help defend you.
