please help me, trying to convince myself nothing is wrong

I am 5 weeks postpartum and after I had the baby I had the worst sciatica... thankfully that flare disappeared after 3 weeks.... now I have terrible pins and needles in my left foot along with shooting sensations. I am terribly afraid of MS.I also have been itching all over, I dont know if the itching is anxiety. I am so scared. I had a clean MRI last March but I know 5% percent of MS do not show on MRIs, has anyone experienced this before? I feel crawling sensations all over me now, I think I am going to have a panic attack on top of caring for a 2.5 year old and a 5 week old :((((

Congratulations on the birth of your Baby! How wonderful!

Have you spoken to your OBGYN about what you are experiencing? If not, it might be a good idea and could relieve some of your fear. Our bodies go though so many changes before and after having a baby.

I would like to address your fear of Multiple Sclerosis. It is true 5% of those initially diagnosed with MS do not have MRIs that indicate lesions. As indicated by the percentage it is rare for it to happen. I was in that rare 5% when I was diagnosed with MS 31 years ago. If your MRI was clear and your Neurological exam was normal MS would be highly unlikely.

What you are describing sounds a lot like some kind of neuropothy or nerve pain caused by something pressing against a nerve or your spinal chord. Could something have gotten out of whack during the delivery or in lifting your toddler? Could you ask your OB doc about trying a chiropractor?

Check in with your doctor when you can...

...but I can tell you that most people with health anxiety do fear MS at some point...it is a very common concern for those of us that worry about illness.

So many changes are still happening in your body as you get back to your pre-pregnancy state. I am sure this is going to turn out to be a passing thing...

...or just anxiety related.

Keep working on your health anxiety self help exercises and material!

Sounds like you have a trapped nerve if things don't improve go back and see your doctor.

hi everyone thank you for all your feedback....the pins and needles in my left foot is gone but I still have the feeling of itchiness (although it is a bit better then yesterday) somewhat relieving..

I spoke to my neurologist and he said since I had a clean MRI, I dont need to worry about MS (?) and that even my symptoms dont present as that of initial MS...even though I find his words somewhat hard to believe it is somewhat relieving...I hope this is all just anxiety even though the fear of MS doesnt leave my mind even for a second.

LMD, how is baby?? I have been where you are and worried about MS years ago. SC is right. It's a very common fear for those with anxiety!

Congratulations on your little one. What you described is likely anxiety related. Glad the tingly feeling is gone in your foot. Try to trust what your doctor said-- since you had a clean MRI, MS is unlikely. Bodies go through tremendous changes pre-and post partum. Hang in there and enjoy that little five week old squish!
