Hello and welcome!
I am sorry to hear of your anxiety challenges/symptoms as well as your Rx and self medicating troubles. This is scary and frustrating to say the least...especially when you want/need to be there for your family and feel your best!
First and foremost, if you've not had a physical as you mentioned...that is priority number one. It does sound as if anxiety is the culprit here, but ruling out physical causes should always be the first step.
Once you have done this, and if all indications still point to anxiety, then you can really focus on your plan.
My suggestions are to stop the recreational use of MJ. You can't be sure what you are getting, and it's likely you're having the attacks because you are smoking a stimulating strain such as a Sativa....as opposed to a calming strain like Indica. If MM is legal in your area...than I can recommend seeing a doctor specifically for a card/dispensary access...and don't endorse any other form of MJ use.
If you'd like to avoid a conventional Rx, then therapy and self help are going to be a must. :) IMO, they should be for anyone having anxiety issues...but especially so if you are not going to go the medical route.
Ask your doctor about a referral to a good therapist and you won't regret the time and effort. I made an amazing recovery from my panic disorder by going though CBT. (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
Self help is also key, and something you can start on right away! At the top of our main forum page you'll find our Resources. Check out the suggested links and see what looks helpful to you!
There is help and hope to feel good again. We are here to support you along the journey, so keep posting if you find it helpful.:)
