Rich,
I want to be perfectly honest and not sugar coat too much. Man, if it's possible, I suggest getting a new gig. I had a temporary job with a huge national company making collections calls and it was hardly a good experience. I felt the company itself was more than fair in working with those that owed, but most will think YOU are the bad guy. When I made the calls, they were made in attempt to help both parties, but as I said, it's never seen that way on the other end.
I remember having to pick a weekend day to work and who wants to hear from me anytime, especially on the weekend? We started at 8 a.m. 8 A.M. Carumba. Did it get better? No. When noon here came, we got to call those on the west coast. I had a man threaten to sound off one of those bull horns or whatever into his receiver if I called again. I had one make the call about me and he inquired as to what I was doing with my life for me to be a collections agent.
I can tell you have a heart. This kind of job takes people with lesser heart in my opinion. I'll do anything I can to help you and I'm sorry this probably wasn't what you wanted to hear.
If it makes you feel any better, I have a fear of the phone in general. The pre-recorded voice of the operator scares me more than any axe-murderer in a horror flick could. The movie Scream did me no favors! lol. The sound of a phone off the hook makes me anxious. When my cell phone rings, I immediately go to a, "What now?" state of mind. Do I supposedly owe someone some money? What does this person want? Can't they text me?
Take care, man.
