A year ago I wouldn't have understood this, but like others have said, it really could be tension from the referred pain of clenching, etc. Recently, I've been sporadically getting right side facial numbness, eye pain, and ear achiness. I've had the eye pain on and off for years, and never solved the mystery. But now with more symptoms, the pieces are falling into place.
For me at least (and possibly you as well), I really do "tense up" and clench/etc, and have these symptoms as a result. I'm only now becoming aware, and haven't yet cured myself. I don't have true TMJ, and my jaw anatomy seems fine (so says my dentist), but TMJ type treatments help in this case. I'm currently reading a book about
posture/etc, and it's helping.
A doctor visit certainly can't hurt, to make sure it's not an infection/etc. Hope the pain resolves!
Ironically, I've cured my borderline high blood pressure. It used to jump up to 150/90 when I was stressed. Now it stays nice and low, and I get facial pain,
. Honestly, I have to laugh (or I'll cry). Whack-a-mole with my health.
