Hi,
I'm at the end of week 3 on venlafaxine 38.5mg, and even though my anxiety seems a little better (long history of GAD) MY sleeping pattern has been messed up since starting venlafaxine. I fall asleep with no problem but normally after 3 hours I wake up, always around 2.30 am and this is bringing me down. I'm not sure if I should continue, give up, up the dosage. Any advice? Anybody else experiencing the same effects on venlafaxine? Thanks so much xx

Hello and welcome!
I am sorry to hear of your waking issues with your new Rx. It is frustrating to have unwanted side effects from a med you are looking to for help. :/
There are a couple of things to consider here...
...one is that s/e's usually phase out after the start up period of 6+ weeks. If you can try and hang in there, you will likely find your system adjusting, and this issue resolving.
The other consideration is dosage timing. If you are currently taking your med at night, then switching to the morning should help.
Practicing coping skills to relax your body and mind is also always a good step. See our Resources at the top of the main forum page here for great material.
Keep posting with us as well if you find it helpful. We understand, care and support is key!

When you wake, is it because you are anxious? Are you able to get back to sleep, or is it a struggle?
If you are struggling to get back to sleep, perhaps you can ask your doctor about
a (temporary) short acting sleeping pill?
Melatonin or Valerian Root are non Rx options. (but still ask your doctor's guidance regarding possible interactions with the medication(s) you are currently taking)
...and yes, those coping skills!!!

I wake up like. It's time. To go to work, it's proper interrupted sleep, not anxious

Okay, just waking prematurely then...
...well look into and consider the above sleep aid options, and hopefully that will get your through this until you adjust.
Peace, progress and keep posting.

Hi
Welcome to the forum.
Venlafaxine can cause sleep problems during start up which can last anywhere up to 4-6 weeks so I would stick with it if you can. If things don't improve you need to go back and speak with your doctor and see what they suggest.
Keep us posted.
