prozac withdrawal for 6 weeks...none the easier.

At first my primary symptom was racing heart and anxiety. the racing heart stopped after 3 weeks but anxiety still comes in frequent bouts. depression and fear i won't make it through have been added to the mix over the weekend. depression was NEVER a symptom i owned prior to prozac withdrawal so i know it's my body just reacting to rebalance. it's less intense now but it was so severe i was scared. never had a thought about suicide before this. so i held tight and it passed. i don't want to go back on this poison just to avoid withdrawal from it. i guess i could have tapered slower. i started at 40mg and reduced to 10mg over a 9 month period before dropping the med early November. i want to succeed! anyone else come out the other side ok or have advice? is 6 weeks too soon to expect improvement in withdrawal symptoms?

i should add i was on prozac for almost 4 years. i was put on it to help with a benzo withdrawal issue i successfully got through. i was put on the benzo originally because an ER doc thought a vertigo episode was caused by anxiety at the time. what a bad ride and now i just want to be free. hoping time and patience will pay off soon.

Welcome to the forum you will find good support here from others who will be able to relate to what you are going through.

Prozac is one of the easer antidepressants to discontinue but it can cause withdrawal effects and you may see an increase in your symptoms as your body readjusts to not having the medication.

I would say that if things don't improve soon that you make an appointment with your doctor and in the meantime double up on any coping skills you have. We have some good links to self help sites on the web in our resources section so take a look.

Hi Hibee! my doctor actually put me on the combo of prozac / olanzapine to combat Klonopin withdrawl. it took me 2 years to taper the olanzapine and it was really hard going through every mental state possible but i did it. i was thinking prozac would be easier too and might have been if i tapered the last pill over another year. but who knows, tomorrow or even next month might be the turning point. would just really suck if it gets any harder before better. i've been through worse but the depression is new and i have to learn to navigate it.

this dosnt add up . never heard of severe withdrawls from Prozac. its the easiest ssri to withdrawl from cause of its extremely long half life. drs switch patients to Prozac to help ease withdrawals from difficult ssri,s like paxil etc. your taper time wasn't to fast in my opinion . how long ago did you stop the combo? how long on just straight Prozac? quitting Prozac was the easiest dug I ever had to stop. klonopin was a nitemare

i sure wish i was having your experience. unfortunately my story is not atypical as there are many prozac horror withdrawals online. from January til November, just straight prozac. thank you for the response. at least we can agree Klonopin was a b*tch.

well we all react different to meds and this is a new one for me. sorry you are having such a bad time.
