Potter,
I have had the black spots when I have hyperventilated. Is it possible that you are unaware of some anxious breathing going on, due to stress? Anxiety sufferers can have symptoms from chronic shallow/overbreathing.
Try spending several minutes, 3 times a day practicing slow, steady deep breathing exercises...and see if this makes a difference.
