massive panic attack day 2 of lexapro :/

hey everyone, me again smilewinkgrin

soooo i'm on day 2 of taking a full 10mgs of lexapro and omg i had the worst panic attack whilst driving to work!!! i was so hot, little bit tingly, freaking out to the maximum, thinking i'm going to lose control of my body, the driest mouth and tongue in the world, trying to calm myself down but per usual it got very intense so i pulled into a side street, tried to compose myself and then drove the rest of the way to work.... not being dramatic but i started to think like what if the lexapro has created some kind of stroke in my brain but i'm okay now so maybe thats just me doing crazy thinking.
Has anyone experienced more anxiety whilst starting a proper dosage?
I luckily got in to see my dr tomorrow at 9am so i will explain. Also have to add that my health anxiety was really bad today from the moment i woke up so maybe it's all connected...
Anyway, looking forward to seeing if anyone has had similar experiences.

It is not unusual for anxiety to become worse, before getting better. This is totally ironic, but true. The important thing to remember is that it is temporary, so do your best to hang in there if you can.

Basically what happens (this is an oversimplified explanation) is that your brain recognizes the synthetic feel good hormones that are being delivered by your Rx...so it slows down it's own production. However, your levels from your med haven't reached full therapeutic levels yet...so for a time you are left with little benefit...

Draw deep and keep using your coping skills! You did a great job staying positive and rational through your attack!

It will get better! I hope you can get further reassurance from your doctor at your appointment tomorrow.

Thank you so much for your detailed reply. My Dr basically said everything you said, i should pay you a consult fee! hahah :P she was like it's a normal reaction and i do have to wait for that 4-6 week mark.I have to go back on Friday for another check up and an ECG. I asked her what that's for and she said because SSRI's can affect the heart rhythms or something and she just wants to check. I'm trying not to worry about that because ive had like 4 in the past couple of years which have always been fine so hopefully this one will be too. Will keep you updated. No doubt your EKG will be just fine as always. This is simply a formality that a diligent health care provider will order...to be sure you are tolerating your Rx all around.
