I have an appointment with a new psychiatrist tomorrow. I am extremely nervous. My regular doctor has been handling my medication until now. I am nervous about switching medications or adding another med. Has anyone successfully switched from lexapro to another med? Or switched from any med to another successfully?

Seems like a good move to see a psychiatrist. He (or she) may suggest medication changes or not -- but usually psychiatrists are better at medication management than internal medicine (general practice) docs. So it seems to me you are doing the right thing. Good luck with it.

I agree with Medved, I think you are doing the right thing too. I too see a psychiatrist and psychologist. My meds were never right until I got help from these two. As posted above there might be a med change or just something added. Or nothing at all. Try not to be nervous about it. I think that this is going to help you.

I agree that seeing a psychiatrist is a good idea.

I have done many medication changes over the years and have had no problems.

I was nervous while there but did ok. We decided to try buspar in addition to my lexapro to see if that will help with my anxiety. I am always nervous about trying a new medicine, but will give it a shot if there is a chance it will help. Thanks all for the words of encouragement.

Buspar is a gentle Rx that is known to be low as far as side effects are concerned, so I think this is a great addition to try in your regimen.

I am very impressed with your commitment to your wellness...and your willingness to try this even in spite of your reservations. I really do believe you can trust your P-doc and that good things will come from seeing him. smile

Cashless, what do you think of your new psychiatrist personally so far? Does he or she seem to have a personality that you like?

MMB, I did like her. I feel lucky since I had nothing to go on, so I just picked the closest office to my house. She was fairly easy to talk to, but she looks like she's about 20 years old!

Cashless, I hope you can get past the fact that your new psychiatrist looks so young.

I'm glad you like her, though. And I'm glad she seems fairly easy to talk to.
