Cymbalta vs Amitriptyline

I just want to ask this quick question and know there are no drs here. Just personal experience or any knowledge you might have on this subject. Which med would work the best for anxiety, Cymbalta or Amitriptyline. I try to keep myself busy cutting out and assembling masks but I am getting increasingly anxious this past month.

As some may know here I have chronic pain due to degenerative disc disease and cancer. It does not help I can not have my cancer surgery because of covid19 at this time. Just like many here I get very anxious which causes me to quickly jump from one thing to another all day. I am also getting chest pain and tightness which many people get with anxiety. I have access to both meds and would like to hear what anyone has to say as to which med would work the best for anxiety.

Cymbalta is used to help with major depression and assists with nerve pain. HT

Amitriptyline, aka Elavil is a mood elevator. I would talk to the doc about something for anxiety.

When I look up the uses of both amitriptyline and Cymbalta they both are used for anxiety and depression. To what degree I have no idea. Could I ask what meds would be good for anxiety that anyone knows of?

They must both have anxiety properties. Have you tried either? What does the doctor say? I would ask the doc and let them recommend.

Hi

I have tried both those medications and found Cymbalta to be the best out the two for anxiety and it is also good for chronic pain which I also suffer with.

There is lots of different options and it’s just a case of giving one a go and seeing if it helps.

Hi all,
I was given the Cymbalta for IBS by my primary care dr. My IBS is always acting up and the dr said its because I am stressed. about three months after trying the Cymbalta my GI dr said I should be taking Amitriptyline and switched me to that. Honestly I am not sure either one does much for anxiety. Just wondered what others are taking and if it helps with this feeling of being anxious all the time.

I take Xanax. It helps. Valium is another good medication as it relaxes the body. If they even prescribe it anymore. There is Ativan and klonopin. I am not sure which one they would give you. You'd have to discuss with your doctor. There are others I am sure.

Having anxiety is no fun.

Yes to karen. Esp if ya need a stand alone anxiety medication. Valium. Xanax temazapam etc. Yep discuss doc. Hibee right....trial n error it is. Keep 💪. HT
