kinda like being trapped in a steamy sauna and you can't get out of it . It starts to drive you crazy...
I have to agree with you too Ez. I'm tired of being treated like we are stress-cases that can't handle pressures of life. I tried to explain to someone last night about panic disorder and i think he understood.
When we get a symptom like shortness of breath, it can't be just shortness of breath. It's gotta be either lung cancer or pneumonia. If we get a headache, it can't be just a headache. It's gotta be a brain tumor. If we get chest pain, it can't just be heartburn. it's gotta be a heart attack. If we get a stomach ache, it can't be reflux, it's gotta be stomach cancer etc.
Do you know why I think we believe this? Because our symptoms FEEL more intense, more than just an average stomach ache, shortness of breath, headache or chest pain. our symptoms FEEL magnified by 100. Every little sensation that I have in my body, even just an itch, tingle or ache, is more intense than before i was diagnosed.
I firmly believe something in our body chemistry has changed. I believe there is a biological cause that isn't clear yet, more than just effecting the brain. i think that there will be a test someday.
I would also love to get together with other PD sufferers and call attention to the NAME "PANIC DISORDER". The name needs to be changed. I think the world does view us a weak, nervous, and afraid of the world just by the name alone and that is not the case! We're thrown into a category of "anxiety sufferers" like we're all just nervous and anxious all day for no reason or have some social phobia. I think many of us are nervous and anxious ONLY because we have physical symptoms that hurt and we are afraid of being somewhere that might make it worse (like being somewhere that we can't go and lie down and take a break). The name has a stigma of "crazy" or "mentally ill" attached. I think if anyone that I knew could spend 5 minutes in my body, they would be at the ER, and finally understand this "disease"!
