Sorry Harry but I have to disagree with your reply. I don't believe that benzos is the answer to agoraphobia or 'getting out'.
It takes a lot of courage for us with agoraphobia to get out. I think that in some cases medication is not the answer. In my case it took courage to get out and would never touch medication. I think that by saying 'a big dose of benzos' MAY give people false hope!

a big dose of benzos will get you out and about, unless you are happy to stay housebound, and some are
you have probably forgotten how to be brave
also longtime sufferers dont like to risk feeling uncomfortable at all and wont do anything that may cause discomfort
agioarphobia is much better understood nowdays and much easier to recover from
Well, I think benzo's can be part of the answer for some. I wasn't quite agoraphobic by definition, I don't think, but there was a time when I didn't leave my apartment. Had a bottle of Klonopin and wouldn't take it. Finally things got so bad that I did, and it sort of cleared my head. After that I was able to keep things in much better perspective and that was the beginning of my recovery. I think the meds are necessary for me, because I'm still on them and still have breakthrough anxiety from time to time. Again, they may not be for everyone, but for some people they work. They're never the entire answer, but they're enough to get you started and to a point, mentally, that you can see the forest in spite of the trees.
Ryleigh, thanks for the comment but you're the one who's taken an active role in your recovery. You've come a long way and are going to go a lot farther....your attitude has transformed dramatically lately, and that's the most important thing. I don't think I have that much to do with it, and the small dose of Klonopin that you're on just got things started. It's all you. Once you were able to breathe, you started running. Keep it up! I know you will.
