Lexapro dose

I have a question,

My crazy thoughts and fears have incressed since the summer and I am now ready to admit I think I either need a differnt med or a different dose. I have been on lexapro 10mg a day for a while now, I was talking to my kids doctor the other day and she said there is only 2 doses of lexapro either 10mg or 20mg a day,

My question is there a 15mg cause i dont want to go from 10 -20 just like that.

I'm on 15 mgs. I cut the pills in half. (the 10 mg ones) (you can get a pill cutter for like $2 at walgreens)

20 mgs was too much for me.

I agree with 15 via the pillcutter, all tablets can be cut, time release versions may lose this feature

crazy thoughts can be unwanted unpleasant thoughts from OCD, which I suffer, a higher antidepressant dose may help, I would eventually work it up to 20

BTW tranquillisers are better in a tablet which can be cut, rather than a capsule which difficult is to divide the contents

Please do talk to your doctor before doing this though okay so that he /she is aware of what is going on as well ..........

Thanks yall so much for the info. My reg doctor wanted me to go up to 20mg from the 10mg I have been on for almost 2 years now, So when I took my kid to the doc, I myself was not feeling well and the whole meds thing came up when the dr. asked what was wrong with me. And then she said only 2 doses but then again she is a kids doc and may not deal with these type of meds to much.

But I dont like my reg doctor cause she treats me like a pill pusher and acts like I am crazy even my husband wants me to go to another doc before uping my meds. So I am on the look for another doc. Any ideas on what type of doctor would be the best???

Also I am so glad to know that I dont have to go strait to 20mgs!!!!!
Thanks for the great info, And dont worry I will talk to doc before changing my meds, Cuz while I know they help me, I am also kinda a skidish about taking meds too!

Lexapro comes in 10 mgs. that have the split down the middle so you can just break them in half (at least the samples, which they should have plenty of on hand).

As to finding a new doc - I'd ask around. Say your looking for a new doc cause yours doesnt have very good bedside manners, isnt understanding, etc. Thats how I found mine. When a few people mentioned how nice he was, how patient and that he really LISTENS, I just had to give him a try. That was many many years ago. (You dont have to mention A/P - leave that to your first visit with the new doc).

Thank you all for the advice. Do you think I should look for a Family doc or a different type of doctor. I have to find a new cause I really think my doctor REALLY does NOT like me. Really has a bad way of going about things and makes comments about things she should not!
Treats me like a child and acts like I pill pushing nut case and always refers to me as having mental illness problems even when I went there with my husband when he was sick, He was not in the room or he might have gave her a tounge lashing!!! I miss my doc I use to have she was so sweet and really listened and cared and wanted people to get better!
I would still be going to her if I would have not moved out of state.
Sorry for rambling on
But I do want to thank you guys for your advice!!!!! I thought a few of you might have taken Lexapro in the 15-20mg range.

I went to a regular medical doctor, but a psychiatrist can be more helpful, but more spendy.

I personally can't afford a psychiatrist, hopefully you have health insurance.

My doc also wanted me to up my dose to 20 mgs, too much for me, too much pain in the legs and too much restlessness and rage. ha

Make sure to stay on your meds while in the process of looking for a different doc, and explain what you're on and what you're going through.
