Okay, so I take Ambien 10mg and Ativan 1mg every night, and still cannot fall asleep untill like 4am. And when I do sleep, its like I'm watching TV all night, dreaming, not resting.

Anyadvice???

I get the same thing, it's exhausting isn't it? I try and go to bed as late as possible (1am) and keep books/DVD's near my bed for when it get's too much.  I don't have any sleeping meds but will occasionally have a glass of wine to help ease me to sleep.  Not recommended often but sometimes on weekends it's my only relief.  Also some pain meds can help you sleep.  Again moderation is important.  Best of luck

Hey AngMichelle,

See if you can switch from the Ambien to Trazadone(sp?). I take 200mg and fall right off to sleep. I've gotten into the habit of staying up late, watching TV (sort of) and skipping around on the boards. I check on several, as I suffer from several medical problems and am on Disability.
Just a suggestion to discuss with your doctor.

Do you have an active daytime life? Sometimes I find it helpfull the more I have done helps me to ge to sleep as I am physically and mentally exausted. You could try excercising or going out with family or friends. Sometimes a little activity can take enough out of you that when you get to your bed all you can do is sleep.

Trazadone is an awesome med to fall and stay asleep with I have taken it for a couple of yrs now I have a hot milk and 150 mg of that and off I go to sleep
Might be a good idea to talk to your doc about it

what type of med is trazadone. We're trying to limit the amount of meds i take and the type's I take. Its a good suggestion, I'll look into it. And yes, I do need to increase my activity through out the day. Right now its hard b/c I just got out of the hospital and am still recoverying. I fell asleep at 5:30am and woke around 12. that after ambien, ativan, and effexor. Do you thinkn I should take the effexor in the am rather than pm??

all night dreaming may not be bad and may be the minds way of coping with problems yeah

antidepressants and some other meds cause vivid dreams that seem to last all night also, and can wake you

trazodone is an older antidepressant that strongly sedates some but not all, so its used as a sleeping pill, try it and if it works, dont take the other sleeping pills
