Why are doctors such a%^$#!@s about Ativan

I am not doing well without my ativan at all. Yesterday I did "ok" today is another story. My physical symptoms are almost unbearable. My dr wont give me any more ativan until my app which is tomorrow. I don't think they understand what a day or 2 does to someone with severe panic. Why do they make such a BIG deal about giving out benz. ? YES i KNOW it can be addicting...hell ill admit im an addict but it helps! Id rather be on ativan for the rest of my life then go through this. Why dont they understand that??? Sorry just venting

I know what you mean...it's the same way with my pdoc about Xanax. Despite the fact that I was on it for 12 years and wasn't addicted, he still doesn't want me to take it any more. I've only had 2 doses in the last 2 months or so. I went to him on Monday and he actually told me that I may have these scary feelings in my stomach for the rest of my life...that was really "uplifting"! Yes, I'm being extremely saracastic there!!!!! It makes me soo very mad! I am dealing with gut-wrenching anxiety everyday and there it sits, my bottle of xanax, and I can't take any of it. Relief is a pill away, but "I may get addicted". The frustration is almost unbearable. I've been doing absolutely everything I can to help myself. Paxil, buspar, atenelol, lisinopril, self-help book, supplements, trying to apply CBT, I've cut out most sugar, progesterone cream, only drink water and skim milk, forcing myself to do everything I am expected to do, despite the anxiety and what do I get????!!!!! If only he would allow me to take a xanax in the morning to help me get the day off a little smoother. Sure, I could go ahead and take a xanax, but what about when I run out? Do you think he'd refill it for me?!!??! Probably not!!! So here I am, suffering everyday, being anxious and depressed, while he goes about his life feeling fine and yet telling ME that I may ALWAYS feel bad!! I could scream and cry all day, but that's just too bad for me. Yes, Hunnie, I know exactly what you mean.

hunniebee- a lot of docs don't like giving out benzos.. .it's very frustrating.. I can't go a day without my Ativan or I panic all day long. I mean really... it's ridiculous... doctors say it's addicting but if it makes us feel better ... why can't we take it? I too, would rather be on Ativan my whole life than to feel the way I do when I don't take one for a day or two. I'm NOT addicted... and neither are you... how can we be addicted to having a sense of normalcy in our lives? That's all we're looking for. Well then, maybe I am addicted, because I like to NOT HAVE PANIC ATTACKS every dang DAY of my LIFE.
Sorry... venting here too.. cuz my doc didn't want me to take it too much longer either.

Janet- Have you tried finding another doctor to prescribe you a benzo? It obviously sounds like nothing helps but the benzos... and nothing helps me either. The Lexapro is "supposed" to help me but is it the Lexapro that's working or my Ativan? I don't know.

Sometimes antidepressants don't work for panic disorder sufferers. If I didn't have my Ativan, I would have panic attacks everyday, so I wonder if the Lex is even helping...
Thoughts I ponder a lot about...

I don't know Twiggy. My primary doc won't give me anti-anxiety meds since I'm being treated by a pdoc. I might eventually have to beg or shop for a more open-minded pdoc. They're getting harder to find though and I'm on medicaid, so my options are pretty limited.

Grrrrr...I hate it when doctors do this.  It makes me wish they could have a real panic attack themselves so they would UNDERSTAND that we are not just whingeing about something minor..we are suffering for real.  I have had so much problems with doctors over the years, being called a junkie, flat out refused and being put on a "contract".  The contract was annoying as I had to go to the chemist every day to pick up my dose (along with the methadone clients - fun) but at least my doc knew I couldn't exceed the dose.  Is there any way you could work this with your doc??? It's frustrating but at least you get the benzo.  Good luck guys. I understand.

YES I am addicted to them as well
I have been on them for yrs and valium as well
I also am on some heavy opiates for other DD yet my doc is very good at not letting me go without and knowing I dont get a " High" from the morphine or other meds it works to the pain ..........as for the ativan and diazapam I am also made sure that I have enough I am blessed with this doc he is my family doc BUT does my couselling as well .....
I did go out last night w/o my ativan or valium and was a bit worried but just kept that to self let rest think I was okay and turns out I did great even shopping and being 30 minutes from home lol
I am so sorry you have to go thru this hunnie
