Depression With Anxiety/How long to give for AD to work?

I've posted this same question on the depression board, but want to ask as many as possible about this>>>>Today, my depression was really bad! I was on zoloft for 12 years and it "pooped out". I was put on paxil cr. At first it was 25mg and now 50mg (the max. dose for GAD). I've been on the 50mg for about a month. I'm still having a lot of anxiety and of course, that makes me depressed, but today, the anxiety was less and the depression was big! How long should I give the paxil before I ask the doctor to try something else??? I went last Monday to see the pdoc and he wanted me to stay on the paxil for another month when I'll see him again, then decide whether to switch meds. I am soooooooo scared and upset. I don't know what to do or what's the best choice. Could smeone give me some guidance here or tell me their experiences. I have one friend on paxil and she said it took her 4 months to feel better!!!!!! I don't know if I can wait that long! Help please!

It only took about 3-4 weeks for it to kick in with me. Everyone is different, but two months is too long I think (to have to wait and see!). I'd make an appointment for the 6 week mark so that if it hasnt started helping you dont have to wait to get in to see him.

I dont know the answer but paxil and zoloft are both SSRI type so it may have been better to try anothert type of AD or to try to augment the zoloft if the dose was near the max

I'm going to try and tough it out to my next pdoc appt. on 1/22. If by then there's no improvement, then I'll see if he'll try me on effexor. It's likely to be a long month...sigh.
