getting off effexor?

i've been on 150 mg of effexor for over a year and am interested in getting off.  i don't have mental health insurance and can't see a doctor and the reason i went on it was pretty circumstancial and that is over.  i'm wondering if anyone has a "plan" of going off of it.  if i don't wean myself off, i'm sure you know the crazy electricity feeling everywhere, nausea, etc.  so i definitely don't want to quit cold turkey.  just looking for any information that would help me out on this venture..

It's not a good idea to do this without medical supervision. It has to be done very slowly, with long pauses sometimes at lower doses, to ensure you do not have unpleasant symptoms and that it's OK to stop the medication.

A decent psychiatrist would certainly have no problem giving you advice if they originally prescribed the medication, even if you don't currently have insurance. Can you call the doctor?

try and get a primary care doc and see if they can help you ween off. Any doc with knowledge of meds is better than none...
