I just started Lexapro 10mg this morning. I have been taking Ativan .5mg as needed for the past year for anxiety/panic disorder. I can go for long periods of time without having to take the Ativan, but I have gotten tired of the constant anxiety. I am very medication phobic and I am really on edge about the Lexapro. Can I just stop taking it and rely more on the Ativan? Lyn, I know that you have taken some form of Valium on a long-term basis. I feel comfortable with the Ativan and think my doctor would be willing to go along with that.

Is it safe to not take the Lexapro anymore since I've only taken one?

I think you should talk to your doctor before stopping any medication and also talk with him about how you are feeling regarding the lexapro and ativan. The lexapro would help you long term as it really isn't great to take benzo's for a long period - there is the worry that they can become addictive. Taking them as and when needed is ok. I was very worried before I started anti depressants but have had great results from effexor and don't really use benzo's now unless in a dire emergancy! Have a chat with your doctor and see what he suggests. Take care

lexaPRO IS A MODERN ad SO SHOULD BE EASIER TO TAKE THAN THE OLDER ONES, WHY NOT GIVE it a try, will likely stop your anxiety and be a big help if it works for you

cut the tablet and take half daily for a while with the ativan, they go well together, often easier if you take the lexapro just before bed
