OK to take both Ativan and Flexeril?

I threw out my neck/shoulder last night and I'm in a lot of pain.  I have some Flexeril left from when I hurt my back awhile ago, but I haven't taken any since I've been on the Ativan.  I'm only taking between .5mg to 1mg Ativan at bedtime.  Is anyone on both these meds?  Is it ok to take the Flexeril this afternoon and my Atvian at bedtime, or should I not mix the two at all?  I realize it will probably make me drowsier than usual, but is it dangerous otherwise?

I'm no doctor - I also take both of those meds at bedtime. I've been on the flexeril for about 3 years and just start the Ativan last month.

Hello. This is Kitt.  First of all I suggest you call your  prescribing physician to ask this question.  I can give you this information but remember I am not a professional. I do understand your needing something for pain.

Flexeril can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.

Avoid using other medicines that make you sleepy (such as cold medicine, pain medication, muscle relaxers, and medicine for depression or anxiety). They can add to sleepiness caused by Flexeril.Avoid drinking alcohol, which can increase some of the side effects of Flexeril. Reference:Pocket PDR 7th Edition

My doc prescribed me Klonopin (similiar to Ativan) and Flexeril and she told me it was safe to take them at same time. I always check that with my pharmacist, they tend to know more about drug interactions, in my opinion. He said it was 'safe' to take them, but there would be a lot of drowsiness... he suggested waiting a couple hours between taking each one, to avoid a burst of sudden grogginess. I still wouldn't drive tho. I did this last night, and I don't even remember falling asleep, so it must have worked very quickly.

I have taken the 2 together with no probs other than very very drowsy

Kitt has posted from the Book about this and I would just let your doc know as well just so it is on record ya know

I just started flexoril in morning w lorazapm at nite. Hv been on lorazepam at nite for years. Now dr daid take * new) flexoril in morning...so it sounded like I shd wait 8 hours between pills. But this morning I didnt about 4 hours. Feel a little jittery. But are flexoril addictive

Flexeril is a muscle relaxer, Lorazepam is a Benzodiazepine. They can be taken together, however, both cause drowsiness. Usually Flexeril is prescribed short term.

Flexeril is not usually addictive but has the possibility of being abused or misused.

Lorazepam can be addictive, but not everyone becomes addicted.

If this is the same prescribing doctor...IOW, he/she knows that you are taking both meds simultaneously, then I am sure you are fine to do so...using as directed.

If you feel you would like more reassurance on this combination...you can consult your pharmacist, who has a vast knowledge regarding possible interaction issues.
