Welcome neelie :)
First of all, did I hear you correct, you are a brand new Grad..............no previous med-surg background?
I worked for a year on a med-surg floor to get that first year under my belt and it was a great foundation. I learned how to deal with the other staff and the Drs. Nursing is tough as you work with different people everyday. Not like in an office where you know who will sit at the desk next to you.
After med-surg I moved to ICU-CCU, a controlled environment where I was never isolated completely. I took care of vents, swans and all the goodies.
From there I ended up in management of the ICU and ER as Assistant Nurse Manager and eventually became Manager of ER and Respiratory Care.
So you can see I grew and learned as I moved into the speciality areas. Yes I would get anxiety on Sundays already worrying about Mondays and returning to work. It is a high stress area, no room to make any errors and we are only humans so it is a tall order to fill.
You are feeling like all the other nurses in the world, fear of the unknown................what will happen and when? When it does, you will just tell yourself "I am a professional" and just do it. It becomes rote if you stay up on all the meds and techniques and possible emergencies that may be dropped in your lap. ABC and after that DEFG etc.............
You will be ok, lots of hugs sweetie.
