OKay so for at least 2 1/2 + years I have had these buggers on and off.  Sometimes they feel different and sometimes they seem the same.  about 3 years ago I had all the tests done which showed PAC's and PVC's and sinus tachycardia(normal fast rate).  So with all that said and done we attributed it to anxiety and panic.  Somatization etc....  So why when a course of these comes do I still freak out and assume I for sure am going to die of some fatal arrythmia? After so many years should I go back and repeat the tests?  My doc said she is not concerned unless I pass out from them etc....  I am almost 27.  Otherwise healthy, I smoke (recently quit for a month) but then started up again. I do have a stressful life with kids and other drama.  Just looking for advice, or similar stories anyone........?

  Hi leahbeans, When I first came down with A/P my heart beat was always the first thing that hit me the hardest, just wondering it I was having a heart attack at the time and if I felt it beating faster it would stop me dead in my tracks, I think that this is one of the hardest things to get though with P/A and is very hard to to learn that your heart is just doing it's job of speeding up your heart rate in times of stress and or physical excursion and as your pdoc said it is not of a concern but you may wish to talk with her just to help you to understand it better.

Hello Leah,

I agree with Cowboy. Whenever we have a run of tachycardia or feel our heart rate change it will have a tendency to cause us to freeze.  The what if's coming flooding into our mind.

If you were checked out 2 1/2 years ago you may want to visit with your physician again just for reassurance.

I've had the same problem and gone to the doctor several times in which the diagnosis has always just been anxiety. It's completely normal to have freak out moments and more than likely nothing to be concerned about. Doing some regular meditation has helped me. :)

The last few days have been good as far as heart stuff goes.  I realize so many things when I'm NOT in a health anxiety slump that I seem to mysteriously forget once the fears arise.  Why is that.....I just think we all need more regularity in our lives...of good stuff. Exercise, meditation even just finding 20 minutes to feed your soul, however it is you do that.

Hi Leah, how have things been for you lately? Can I just say that apparantely it is impossible to pass out from a panic attack - too much adrenalin in your blood.

Everything that I read sounds so much like me. I was at my doctor yesterday and he reassured me of the same thing. That with these palpations my heart is only doing its job when it speeds up. He explained it to me like this. Athletes work out to achieve an extremely high heart rate and they do not freak out while we are having panic attacks our heart rates are doing the same thing they are just unwilled causing us to freak out about it. These are something to me that I have a very hard time with because my heart rate shoots up so very fast. To the point that I think that I am going to pass out which I was assured will not happen also because of the rush that is in your body.
I am one that has chosen so far to deal with these attacks as they come and not take any form of medications to ward them off. I have been dealing with them so long I know what is going on and I try not to freak myself out (which I might add is VERY hard) I have found a few relaxation techniques that does work yet does not shorten the length of the attack only makes it easier to cope with. My average attack usually lasts about 45 minutes and they come in a set of 2 distinct attacks back to back.
Hope that things improve for you as I know what you are dealing with and how scary they can be.
