Hi Everyone,

I am a regular on the bp forum, as I am a bp supporter; however, I am sufferering from severe anxiety issues and was hospitalized a few weeks ago. My anxiety has been through the roof the past few days and I am counting down the minutes until my pdoc. appt. tonight.

It was so bad this weekend, I drove to the next state just to get away because I had to just keep going and going.....can anyone relate to that?

Anyway.....I am here at work trying to concentrate and I am trying to keep it together until then....I would appreciate your well wishes and kind thoughts. At this point, I need all the help I can get ......trying to keep my anxiety under control.

Hi there Casem... I know what you are going through in some ways...I cannot relate to driving to the next state, because staying close to home is my comfort!!! I can relate with high anxiety, especially before doctor appointments of any kind, even the pdoc. I just went to the pdoc on November 1st, for the first time, actually, and I gotta say, going there LITERALLY changed my life. My regular doctor put me on Lexapro and Xanax, and that wasn't the right med combo for me. She adjusted that, where now I take Klonopin, and she is weaning my Lexapro down to put me on Effexor. So, since starting the Klonopin, I feel so much better. You will be fine...the pdoc is your friend...REALLY! All will go well, and you will see you were nervous for NOTHING!!! After your appointment, let us know how it went. I bet you will come here with good words!!! I wish you all the best! Relax, be calm, all will be fine!!!

Hi Casem, I know what you mean about the high anxiety while waiting for something - an appointment, going to the store, whatever.  It's all a very high anxiety time for me as well.  I do try very hard not to think about what's coming up by keeping myself busy with some hobbies or (and this sounds silly, but I started doing this when I was in the hospital a few months ago) I color pictures.  Yes, coloring calms me for some reason, sometimes it's the ONLY thing that will calm me.  I've printed things from online to color, so I have a folder of pics to work on when I need to.  I also sew - I love it, but if I'm overly anxious I can't do it because I can't get myself to focus on it enough and then I end up making mistakes.  What you need to do is find something that you like and will be able to really focus on it and hopefully this will calm you.  Don't forget about using some breathing/relaxation techniques. As most others here on the A/P board, I can totally relate to the anxiety being through the roof.  I was the same way last week because of issues and worries over my son. As others have said, just try to keep yourself as busy as possible and if you have hobbies maybe you could focus on them.  Good luck today and let us know how it went.  Wen

chowch...a pdoc is a psychiatrist...just an easier way to say it!
