Well...3 months post surgery and I thought I'd better check in to let folks know how it is going. It was pretty bad in there, as the surgeon told me afterwards. The body was literally trying to...
Go to the ER....
The sigmoid's going bye-bye in a month. Had a consult with a good surgeon and we both agree its time for it. Too much risk of perforation and side-effects from prolonged cipro/flagyl use are starting...
Metronidazole (Flagyl) is usually the first line of defense against C Diff. If you are on the Cipro/flagyl combo, it is important to take the flagyl as it keeps C Diff in check. For more severe C...
I would recommend asking for an abdominal CT scan. It picked up things I didn't even know I had....
I would add diverticulitis to the list. I have a "smoldering" form of it that does not reveal itself as one large massive attack. Only a CT scan finally nailed the diagnosis. I owe a lot to the ER...
Commtr is right. You need to rule out more serious conditions like like colon cancer. Get those tests done before labeling it IBS. Finally took a nasty episode and a CT scan to find my main problem...
I would try 1 and a half capfuls of miralax at morning and night. High dose Miralax usually gets me going when I constipate. It was recommended to me by an ER doctor....
I hope for the best outcome possible for you !...
Not fun, definitely. But I have feeling it is only a taste of what a UC or Crohn's sufferer endures. I definitely have sympathy ;)...
Yup sometimes they resolve with antibiotics, sometimes they will until you end the treatment and then it comes back. Some get sharp pains and require immediate surgery, where others have "smoldering"...
I certainly will, Quincy. The new doc said the same as you...don't wait and risk perforation. I am now in agreement and ready to take the step....
I have had similar "attacks". Nausea, then nasty foul tasting burps, then vomiting. I literally knew what was coming. One thing that seems to have possibly helped me is I have started a gastroparesis...
One thing I would highly recommend is a full abdominal CT Scan. It showed everything for me, including a small hiatal hernia I did not know I had. Best 35 dollar co-pay I ever spent!!!!...
Been awhile since reply, my apologies. Pretty much on cipro/flagyl constant now, as the sigmoid appears to be nearly ready to "give out". I have an appt with a good surgeon in 3 weeks and I highly...
Just got back for the ER and a CT scan. My first known full blown diverticulitis attack. Not only is my old GI getting the boot, so is my PCP who ignored my symptoms....
In the sigmoid region in 2010. I am definitely getting a new GI. It has been a absolute fight to get them to cough up specific information from my latest colonoscopy. It's like everything else is a...
After two colonoscopies, I can say the worst part is drinking the gallon of PEG solution. Small price to pay for making sure that you have no cancerous polyps :)...
Could be hereditary, chinamom. I am pretty sure mine is and as we age the chances of diverticula become much greater. Large factor is our fiber poor western diet as well...of which I am guilty as...
I have good luck with Miralax. I am on it due to diverticular colitis and it is the only thing that works gently and effective for me. I refuse to use any of the stimulant laxatives due to dependency....
The GERD and the gall bladder were pretty separate issues for me. I had decent sized stones and the pain rolled around my chest and started to mimic heart problems. The surgeon told me I got it out...
IMHO, try Miralax for the constipation when it happens again. I have diverticular colitis that backs me up a lot and they have me on 50g a day to keep things going. 1 capful in the am, 2 at night....
I hope all went well at the hospital. Good choice to go, especially if you are seeing that much blood!...
Thanks for the info!!! Presently they have me on high dose Miralax about 50g per day to get things past the colitis patch. It can be painful until the bowels are emptied. Not sure how to proceed with...
It's higher up. I had a nasty diverticular bleed about 3 years back coming from sigmoid and it was bright red....
I tried hydrocortisone suppositories for hemorrhoids. I got real wired from them so that was enough of that unless they got really severe....
Sounds like a new doctor is in order. Check into FMLA with your employer, IMHO. I hope you get better soon!...
Forgive as this seems to be the closest forum to my condition and probably with the most who understand :) I was diagnosed in July 2010 with diverticular associated colitis that now appears to be...
