My DH was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis a couple of weeks ago.  He was in severe pain in his hips and shoulders.  He had been treated for Psoriasis in January with a topical spray.  The Dermatologist asked him if he had any joint problems.  No..he didn't. 

about a month after using the topical spray his psoriasis was gone..but..he started hurting bad in his hips and shoulders.

We went to Rhuemy. She said he has Psoriatic Arthritis. She recommended Humira. 

He took his first injection last Friday.  The next day he was feeling better!  For the next couple of days he was feeling better as long as he took Advil several times a day.

Now...he says his hips and shoulders hurt..but not nearly as bad..However..his neck and between his shoulder blades hurt.  What's up with that?

Do any of you have this pain?  (neck and between shoulder blades) 

Does this all sound like Psoriatic Arthritis?

Also..BIG question..what is the prognosis for Psoriatic Arthritis?

I have a disease closely related to Psoriatic Arthritis [PsA]. Bpth your husband's disease and mine belong to the family of Spondylitis Diseases. I first took Remicade, and then Humira for my problem. Remicade worked great for 2.5 years then stopped working. Then I started Humira which worked somewhat for me. I had to stop the Humira due to a reaction to it.

If you go to the link I am going to put at the bottom of this message, you will find one of the best description of PsA and the other diseases in the family. When you get to the site, look on the top bar and go to about Spondylitis. Once there you will see a listing of the diseases on the left. I hope that gets you the indepth information you want.

Hey there.. welcome to the forum! I have Psoriasis and PsA like your husband.. however, I am on Enbrel and Methotrexate for it.. I also have the pain in my spine and neck.. my rheumy told me that this is very common of PsA

His Rhuemy didn't say anything about Spondylitis..however..I'm wondering if, since his neck and upper back hurts that it could be that.

Is Spondylitis from Psoriatic Arthritis? Or..is it a separate disease?

I am still finding it so surprising that my DH has PsA. It came up so quick. Four months ago..we were just dealing with Psoriasis. Now this. :(

Hey there.. Spondylitis can be a type of Psoriatic Arthritis (see the blue in the post above).. but there are other types as well, that spondylitis.org goes into..

Did your hubby tell the doc that his neck and upper back hurt? Ok, I just re-read your post, the neck and back pain started after the Humira, right? Did his rheumy say why she didn't start him on Enbrel first? I'm just curious, 'cause Enbrel is prescribed for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis usually before Humira.. hhmm..

My DH's Rhuemy prescribed the Humira after she gave us a choice of Humira and Embrel.  She sent us home with pamplets to read about both.  We chose the Humira because the injections are only once every 2 weeks.  The Embrel had to be taken once a week.  Since my DH travels some (so do both of us) we decided on the Humira.

Don't they do the same thing? Only one is once a week and the other every 2 weeks? I didn't know that Embrel usually is prescribed before Humira. hmmm.  Curious on that one.  The Rhuemy didn't say that.  Thanks so much for the information. :)

my rheumy told me that Enbrel is usually more effective on psoriasis, than Humira, I think it was the first biologic to actually be proven to help with psoriasis.. but since then (I first saw him in 2005) Humira and Remicade have also been proven.. So that's probably why they gave you the option of either or.. I know if I had built up a tolerence to the Enbrel, my rheumy was going to switch me to Humira.. but so far, so good.
