anybody have any synvisc injection experiences???

My knee has gotten really bad.  The doc had mentioned synvisc injectioms as a possible treatment.  I called and set myself up for three of them.  Would be interested in any input anybody might have.  I figure I have nothing to lose but the pain.  The pain seems to be getting a lot worse. shocked shocked

There is another similar drug (Euflexxa) that a lot of our patients are having great results with.

I was wondering the same thing myself, as my knees have been hurting real bad, I think its suppose to lubricate the joints in the knee?

Joan did you ever get these injections and have they helped, I think my primary has got this drug and can administer it to me, and she is alot cheaper than a specialist.

The  pain has been so bad I have been considering steriod injections in both kneees, and that would mean back to an orthopedic surgeon, I know a good one, but money is so tight right now.

I beleive my knee surgeries actually worsened my knees, altho they dont come out of socket any more, they hurt terribley, especially going up and down stairs, and we have stairs I cant avoid them rolleyes

I have fallen quiet a few times in the last month and a half alone, usallly I fall up the stairs, but couple of weeks ago I fell down the stairs and landed on my elblow(ouch!) cry .   and the times I fell up the stairs i have usally had something in both hands like glasses with liquid in them and I couldnt catch myself, and the glasses and liquid go flying everywhere, Thank God they didnt break.  So I try to be real careful going up and down the stairs , remembering to hold the hand rail.

Anyway if you got your shots let us know how they went, thanks....

Not synvisc, but I've had three series of Hyalgan injections to my knee over the past three years. Each time it keeps my knee going for about a year, than I go back and get more. Now that I'm retired, I'll be able to schedule surgery (which is badly needed) at my convenience, instead of having had to rush in and miss work a few years back.

If the Synvisc works as well, I think you'll be happy you got them.

My insurance covered, but they had to get it pre-authorized. As I recall, it took about ten days to get the authorization.

Hi everyone. I have a long history of knee problems and multiple surgeries on both knees. My last round of surgery was in 04 and at that time my ortho recommended Supaartz injections.. It is a series of 5 injections in each knee. He claims he has seen better results with the Supaartz than Synvisc. It is very expensive, $1,000 to do one knee, that is the medication cost only. My ortho wrote a script for the Supaartz that was filled at my pharmacy. I then took my medication to my dr and he did the injections. While they hurt like the devil as most knee injections do it was several months before I could really tell a difference. So, it has bought me some time, next is replacements. Susie

Right now I would settle for cortizone shots , I cant even walk up and down my stairs with out extreme pain. I dont like the ortho who did my knee surgies, he thinks im fine no, n problems, well I am hurting I have problems, likely arthritus severly, I may be a little young for replacemants they only good for about 10 yrs? I am only 39. I think I would want to go the route of some shots if they work, to buy me time too. I will be seeing a different orthopedic surgeon that i have been reccomended to, hopefully have better results, i wil go with what he reccomends. scool

smilewinkgrin   smilewinkgrin I forgot about this thread I started.  Did okay with the shots.  Has been some improvement.  The thing about synvisc is that it is not harmful like cortisone is to your bones.  Found the injections to be okay...very little pain.  I am covered and did not need a pre-authorization.  They cost me $12 for each shot. shocked shocked these doo-hickies are fun smhair smhair

Hi I tried Sinvisc. My experience was that I got some relief but not enough. I am no longer in excruciating pain, but I can’t walk (like 100 feet) or stand (20 min) for long. If I do I’m in for pain for the next 24 hrs. I also have only 1 pair of shoes that are “pain free”. This is during the maximum relief phase.

I did a lot of research on this product, and it does seem to help a lot of people – I’m just not one of them. I am not allergic to it but it did increase my knee size by 25 – 30 %. You can tell in pants and “tighter” skirts. So be aware.

My Dr no longer seems interested in helping me find a better solution. He did his thing and now it’s physical therapy. Now I am searching for a new Dr. I gave it a shot, it’s better than surgery if it works for you.

Hi Jewelry; Synovist did not work very well for me; however Hyalgan did. I have had surgery; 3 times on the left, 4 times on the right and eventually, I will get partial knee replacement. In the meantime, I've lost 55 pounds which, in and of itself, relieves so much pressure on my knees, but Hyalgan has worked very well. It lasted about 6 months the first time and it's been 10 months since the second set and I'm still okay. I work with a trainer now and the strengthening that we're working on so surpasses the the results from physical therapy! This is something I would recommend highly; trainers are not cheap, but you can work with someone at your local YMCA too.

I changed ortho's the last time I tore the meniscus in the right knee; he's younger and very open to different modalities. If you're not getting the care you deserve, then I would definitely look around.
