RLS--restless leg syndrome

hello--i am new here--and i would really like to chat with someone else that has nasty pains in their legs. It started about March and well..i dont want to garden cause the thougth of bending just kills me. I cant put one leg over the other--cause that feels likes poundage on my leg. My right leg feels like someone is constantly kicking my shins and my right--the leg is sore--but the foot--wow, it feels like some one is inside pulling at all the bones in my legs and in my toes--what a feeling.

At night i can almost cry--it hurts so bad. I am awake more than asleep--my god i am not old--well maybe i am 49 but wow--this is a nasty thing to have.
MY doc is sending me for a sleep study.  Cause this is only a stipulation that i have it--as the symptoms sound the same--but need a complete diagnosis before anything can be done--not even pain killers helps.

I know just what you're talking about. Before my sleep study and subsequent meds, I moved, wiggled, and rocked my legs when I was in bed. I could not keep them still any more than I could stop breathing. In fact, that's what it felt like if I tried to stop moving them - like I was holding my breath and I couldn't wait to take a great big breath. It drove me crazy, and you'd better believe it drove my DH crazier than that. During the day my legs didn't bother me but I rocked them, shook them, or moved them all day long.

My sleep study showed the doctor how many times an hour I moved my legs and based upon that he prescribed 1200 mg of Neurontin at bedtime. It has been a godsend. My DH and I both sleep like babies and I wake up in the morning with no after effects.

I have a friend, however, who has a more severe case than I and takes different meds than I. You're fortunate to have a good doc who's sending you in for a sleep study because that's the best way that I know of to get to the bottom of RLS. (BTW, I was allowed to take an Ambien before sleeping at the hospital so you might ask about that, in case you think you'll have trouble sleeping in a strange room with wires hooked up to you)

I agree that pain meds have done nothing to help with my RLS, but I'll bet the sleep doctor will be able to prescribe something that will give you relief. At least I hope so! What you have is miserable.

hello, and thanks for all the supporting replies. We went camping this weekend--days were 27 celcius and nite was 10--and holy wack my legs were in bad shape. I am not the best when it comes to abbreviations for things so if you write to me--duh please use the right word. I live in ontario--so i dont know where everyone is located, but in  my small mennonite town--we have great docs that really help fast--so i am hoping that i get a call soon for the sleep study--thanks
