SydneyJo,

Have been on the crohns forum and ivy6 told me you might be on this forum..calling on you because I have been recently dx with crohns and live in Aus - about 5hrs drive from Sydney.

I am very new to the net (just got it on a couple of weeks ago!), so very new to the forum.

Was wondering if I could ask you some questions.  Sydney seems to be more local to me then the rest of the world!  Thanks

Ask away and I will answer as best I can :-) although Im not sure I will be much help :-)

I've just started a new job and am juggling 10 balls at once here eyes   so bear with my late responses. I do try and pop on for a few minutes each day so will look out for a reply.

Hi Jo,

I was thinking of things like good docs and hospitals (if you know of any :-) LOL ), cheap pharmacies, support groups, decent toilets on the outskirts of Sydney; things like that?

Sorry for the late reply, Jo (I was telling 1vy I was'nt very good at the internet - new to it).
I have recently (3 weeks ago) been diagnosed with crohns and was wandering if you give me a little info on a couple of things. I saw a new GP for the first time yesterday. He is quite good. He mentioned to me there is a good crohns team in Sydney at Concord Hospital. Have you heard of any specialist teams in the Sydney area? I have a GI specialist where I am, but he is a very "quick" doctor (even though I tried to slow him down abit) when it comes to discussing issues with. I am currently on prednisone, started on 50mg/day and weaning down by 5mg each week. In about 2 weeks we wants to start me on imuran - have read about it and a bit frightened about the side effects. I would like to weigh up the options at each decision I need to make with future treatments. I am becoming well aware that my mx will change from time to time and that this seems to be very individualized, but if I can possibly have as many resources at hand regarding info, treatments and management strategies I will be better equipped and hopefully have a say in the way I would like to be treated - especially with medications, and potent ones at that!. I am about 5 hrs drive from Sydney, but live in a regional area with hospitals (thank god). I appreciate your very busy, feel free to reply when you have the time.

Hi Charlee,

I dont know much about Concord Hospital, although its not too far from me, I have heard they are the best for breast cancer.

My Gastro is all business and in and out too rolleyes . I find out more about meds from this site, so I suggest them  to her and she looks into them before prescribing.

I have taken Imuran in the past, but not to scare you, it gave me acute pancreatitis, not to say that this will happen for you as we are all different :-)

Hopefully the Imuran will work for you.

I told you I wouldnt be much help turn

Thanks for the reply. Would rather here of things that go wrong on meds so it gives me questions to ask the doc and weigh up the good with the bad before starting. Also gives me something to watch out for. Every bit of info is a help, especially at this stage. Will give you an update once I am underway. Thanks so much

Hi Charlee,

All the meds we take are scary at first, but when they start working you will put all that out of your mind and only occasionally have days of worrying about them.

I will keep checking the Crohn's forum on how you are progressing.
