What you are describing is exactly what happened to me last May. I was out of town for the weekend at a seminar w/my husband and I was miserable. I could barely walk. When I took off my shoes and socks that night, I discovered hard swollen joints at the base of my three middle toes on both feet. I, too, was tested for RA. So far, they say it is Erosive Inflammator Osteorarthritis, but the rheumy seems to be watching me closely. I may have seronegative RA. That is what my GP thinks. The only thing that helped me w/the pain that weekend was Celebrex, but it only took the edge off. I cannot take NSAIDs anymore, so I take Tramadol. I, too, get sharp, shooting pains in my toes and in my fingers. They are random and move around. Sorry you are having this issue. I know how painful it is and how it adversely affects your mobility. The ace bandages act as compression and give support. When my hands, wrists, ankles & feet are very sore wrapping them makes me feel better. Hope you find relief soon.

BadDay, that sounds sort of painful! I may try it but would it work with slightly warmer then cold - not exactly luke warm? I have Raynaud's and I'm afraid the extreme temps would activate it.

Weary, thanks I may try that. So, when you're all wrapped up, do you feel like a mummy? :)

One other question Weary...with the bandages, when wrapped around the foot, does it prevent the toes from swelling up because of the compression?

By the time I go to bed, it's going to look like I'm going to battle! I have a nightguard for clenching, I sometimes use a neck brace, I also use arthritic gloves to keep the swelling down along with wrist splints for carpal tunnel and now I am going to be wrapping my feet. Talk about looking like a mummy!
