Leaky gut???

   Just wondering if anyone can tell me what is meant by a leaky gut?  someone asked me the other day if id been checked for that

since i   get terrible cramps and you know .....diahrea  when on prednisone and aleeve etc.   it sounds terrible and howdo you get checked for it? im worried that if i cant tollerate those two i dont know what the reaction will be like when i finally get to see my rheumy sept 27

Hi, Gypsy...I would find a good gastroenterologist and start there...from all of the narcotics and medications over the years for the R.A., I was diagnosed with gastroparesis in 2009, a pretty severe case of it...my gastroenterologist was the one who diagnosed that particular issue.

I have heard of leaky gut, but am not definitively certain as to an explanation so I don't want to venture there...perhaps if you Googled it, you may be able to get a loose description of it.

I also have gastroparesis! Have had it for a few years now..but some of those issues such as the noisy belly etc are actually helped by the pred I am on for the RA, go figure! But yes,  you need to go and see a good GI doc, it took me a couple of them to find one, but they are out there, same as the rheumies!

Thanks for the info. i hadnt heard that phrase before so i wondered if there was anything to it. i will check into that.
